Admin FAQs for Contests

What are Contests?

Contests on Common are adaptable, community-hosted competitions that utilize meme coins and other tokens for actual transactions.

Community members can showcase their best ideas and submissions, and the thread with the most upvotes at the end of the Contest wins the prize money funded by the admin. Contests incentivize community contributions and offer a thrilling, transparent system to reward participation.

How do I fund a Contest?

Admins have two different ways of funding Contests

  • By using direct deposits with your community’s primary ERC20 token

  • By utilizing fees from community stake

How to Launch a Contest

Step 1: Create a Topic and set up Weighted Voting

You’ll have two options for weighted voting:

  • ERC20 Token Voting from supported chains

  • Community Stake Voting, specific to your community

    • By default, Community Stake Contests are recurring

Step 2: Create Your Contest

Go to Admin Capabilities → Contests

Click on "Launch a Contest" to start building your desired Contest

Choose a topic to run your Contest within

Input a descriptive name that clearly indicates the desired action (e.g., "Pitch essay ideas for our blog" or "Send us the best memes").

Select or generate an image that reflects your brand identity. This will help visually engage participants and set the tone for the Contest.

Define the duration of your contest (1-7 days)

Step 3: Define your Rewards

Select the prize payouts and number of possible winners. The top upvoted threads in the active Contest topics will win, with up to 10 winners sharing the prize.

Step 4: Launch your contest!

Hit "Launch" to kick off your contest and let your community unleash their best submissions for a chance to win big!

Step 5: Automatically Reward Your Community Members

After 1-7 days, your Contest will end, and winners will be automatically rewarded! Prize money will be distributed to the winning threads as set by the admin.

Contest Rewards

  • ERC20 Token Contests: Winners are rewarded directly from the provided token address.

  • Community Stake Contests: By default, winners are rewarded in ETH.

How long do Contests run for?

There are two ways to run a Contest:

  • A one off Contest that ends after the duration of 1-7 days

  • A repeating Contest that rewards a new winner every 1-7 days

Repeating Contests are funded by utilizing fees from community stake.

How are Contest entries submitted and selected?

Every Contest is attached to a topic within your community. When a Contest is running within a particular topic, all new threads created in the topic are considered entries into the Contest.

The thread with the most upvotes at the end of Contest duration wins the Contest and is rewarded the prize money that the admin has set.

Who can run Contests?

Only admins of communities that have Community Stake enabled can run Contests. Admins can go to Admin Capabilities → Contests to enable Contests for their community.

Who can participate?

All community members can participate by submitting their entries as threads in the topic where the Contest is active. Each member's contribution becomes a potential winning entry.

How do community members win a Contest?

The Contest winners are determined by the number of upvotes their threads receive. The thread with the most upvotes among the Contest-enabled Topic wins. For Contests with multiple winners, up to 10 upvoted submissions will share the prize money based on the prize split set by the admin.

Can the duration of the Contests be adjusted?

At this moment all Contests can be set to run from 1 to 7 days.

How can users claim the prize amount for the Contest?

The prize amount for the Contest is deposited to the address of the users with the highest number of upvotes.

If the Contest uses ERC20 tokens, winners are rewarded directly to their wallet from the token address.

For Community Stake Contests, the reward is in ETH by default. Payouts are made automatically to the winner’s wallet once the Contest ends.

What is the Fee Manager?

The Fee Manager distributes Community Stake fees. It collects and allocates fees to various uses, such as Contests. For example, if a community generates 1 ETH and has two Contests, the Fee Manager will distribute 0.5 ETH to each Contest.

Is the Fee Manager Enabled for All Communities?

The Fee Manager is only enabled for communities with Contests. Communities without Contests will use the existing funding mechanism, with stake funds going to the admin wallet.

How Can Admins Promote Contests?

Contests are represented as cards and linked to specific topics. To promote a Contest, create a post in a relevant topic or general discussion with detailed instructions. Topics with active Contests will display a card at the top explaining the Contest.
