Farcaster Contests: User Documentation

Overview

Farcaster Contests powered by Common allow users to create, participate in, and win meme contests directly within Farcaster. With no external sign-ups or redirects, everything from submissions to voting and payouts happens natively within the platform.

Mochi x Common have launched the first-ever Farcaster Contest, offering $3,000 in prizes for the best memes. This guide explains how users can participate and create their own contests using Common's Farcaster Contest Infrastructure.

How It Works

1. Contest Creation

  • A contest is created on Common’s platform and is funded with any token on Base.

  • The contest is then shared as a Farcaster Frame, making participation seamless.

2. Submitting Entries

  • To submit a meme, users simply reply to the contest Frame with their meme.

  • No sign-ups or extra steps are required—just post and enter instantly.

3. Voting

  • Users upvote memes using Common’s Upvote Content action.

  • Voting is token-weighted, ensuring that the best memes are decided by the community’s stake.

4. Winning and Payouts

  • The most upvoted memes win the contest.

  • Payouts are automatically sent to the winners' Farcaster-linked wallets.

Key Features

  • Frictionless Participation: No need for external links or sign-ups—just reply to the Frame to enter.

  • Community-Driven Rewards: Upvotes are token-weighted, ensuring the best content wins.

  • Onchain Meme Economy: Contests are funded with native tokens, driving engagement and circulation.

How to Create Your Own Farcaster Contest

Step 1: Set Up the Contest

  1. Click on Create Contest and fill in the details:

    • Contest name & description

    • Token funding (any Base token)

    • Start and end time

  2. Generate and share the contest as a Farcaster Frame.

Step 2: Encourage Participation

  • Share the Frame widely within your community.

  • Engage users by upvoting and interacting with memes.

Step 3: Distribute Rewards

  • Payouts are automatically handled through Common’s infrastructure.

  • Winners receive their rewards directly in their Farcaster-linked wallets.

What’s Next?

Common is continuously improving the contest experience with:

  • Better Discoverability: Making it easier to find ongoing contests.

  • Enhanced Voting Mechanics: New ways to engage and determine winners.

  • Streamlined Payouts: Faster and more flexible reward distribution.

  • Contest Bot: no need to leave Farcaster, just @commonbot to prompt the contest creation
